Eddie® by Giddy Device for ED: Is it Effective?

If you’ve searched for alternatives to ED medication like Viagra®, you may have come across a wearable device called Eddie manufactured by the company Giddy.

Eddie®, or the Giddy ED device, is a small penis ring device that slips onto your penis and makes it easier to maintain an erection during sex. It’s marketed as a safe, natural alternative to options such as PDE5 inhibitors and more inconvenient, uncomfortable cock rings.

As an ED device, Eddie has several unique features that make it stand out from similar products available to treat erectile dysfunction and improve sexual performance.

Below, we’ve explained what Eddie is, how it’s designed to work and the research behind it and similar wearable devices for treating ED. We’ve also listed other treatment options that you may want to consider if you’re one of the tens of millions of American men affected by erectile dysfunction.

What is Eddie by Giddy?

Eddie the Giddy ED device, or simply Eddie, is a unique medical device that’s designed to fit over the base of the penis and improve sexual performance in men with ED.

Unlike a traditional ring device, which has a circular design, Eddie uses an oval shape that fits the penis more naturally and improves sexual function without a restrictive effect on the flow of blood. A tension band is attached to hold the device in place.

Giddy, the company that makes Eddie, claims that this design improves sexual performance at a lower cost, with additional comfort and more safely than more conventional treatment options such as ED pills, penis pumps, cock rings and erectile dysfunction surgery.

Unlike ED medication, which requires a prescription, Eddie can be purchased online without any need for a visit to the doctor.

Giddy offers several different services to make using Eddie easier, including three-times-a-year replacements and free resizing.

How Does Eddie the Giddy ED Device Work?

Eddie works similarly to a cock ring, albeit with a unique, patented design that applies pressure to veins inside the penis without affecting the arteries responsible for natural blood flow.

To understand how Eddie works, it’s important to quickly cover the basics of erections and male sexual function.

Your penis becomes erect when blood flows into the corpora cavernosa — a pair of sponge-like areas of tissue inside your penis. As blood flows in, the pressure inside the tissue increases to give the penis its firmness, shape, and size.

To maintain the erection, a fibrous membrane referred to as the tunica albuginea wraps around the corpora cavernosa and prevents blood from flowing out of your penis.

A typical cock ring works by pinching the base of the penis and stopping blood from flowing out during sex. This helps to prolong erections, but it also applies unwanted pressure to the urethra (the tube through which you ejaculate) and the arteries inside your penis.

Eddie is designed to apply pressure to the dorsal vein at the top of the penis, all without putting any pressure on the urethra or the important arteries inside the penis.

Who is Eddie by Giddy For?

Eddie is largely aimed at men with erectile dysfunction who are either dissatisfied with existing treatments or uninterested in using medication.

Because of its design, Eddie purportedly fits the shape of the penis more naturally than a cock ring. Since it isn’t a pharmaceutical treatment, it’s also less likely to cause the side effects that are associated with ED medications.

How Much Does Eddie by Giddy Cost?

Eddie is sold as part of a subscription plan, with new sets of Eddies and tension bands shipped to you every four months. The “Stay-Giddy” plan is priced at $188 every four months, or around $1.57 per day.

Each pack includes one Eddie, six tension bands, a personalized series of ED video guides and other content from Giddy.

Pros and Cons of the Giddy ED Device

Like other erectile dysfunction treatments and medications, Eddie has certain advantages and disadvantages.

Potential advantages of the Giddy ED device include:

  • It’s easy to use. Eddie is designed to easily slide onto the base of your penis and stay in position during sex. It also comes with two types of tension bands, letting you adjust tension to match your needs and improve your erectile function.

  • It may be more comfortable than a conventional cock ring. Due to its design, which takes into account the shape and size of your penis, Eddie may be more comfortable to wear than a conventional cock ring.

Disadvantages of the Giddy ED device include:

  • It’s not “out of the way,” like ED medication. Although Eddie looks better than most cock rings, it’s still a device that you need to wear during sex. In comparison, most ED medications can be used orally before sex, without any need for physical devices.

  • Currently, research on its effectiveness is limited. As we’ve covered in more detail below, there isn’t any high quality scientific research on Eddie right now. Research on similar devices for treating ED is also limited, with mixed findings overall.

  • Over the long term, using Eddie can be quite expensive. At $188 each four months, Eddie is significantly more expensive to use than most other cock rings and similar ED devices.

Is Eddie by Giddy Safe? What are the Risks?

Eddie appears to be safe when it’s used as directed. According to Giddy, the company behind the Eddie device, it should either cause no issues or only cause minor, infrequent side effects when it’s used correctly.

Although there are no scientific studies on the safety of Eddie specifically, some research has found risks associated with the use of similar devices, such as over-the-counter cock rings.

For example, there have been case reports of penile injuries from cock rings, particularly rings that are fitted poorly or left on the penis for too long.

Before using Eddie or any other devices to treat ED, it’s best to talk to your healthcare provider about the potential risks and safety issues.

They’ll be able to tell you more about how you can successfully treat erectile dysfunction while reducing your risk of side effects, allergic reactions or complications.

Do Penis Rings Like Eddie Actually Work for ED?

Erectile dysfunction, or ED, is a common condition that can make it difficult to get an erection or maintain an erection that’s firm enough for sex.

Although ED may not seem like the biggest deal, it can have a significant impact on your sexual arousal, function and general wellbeing, especially if it often gets in the way of you being able to have sex.

Most treatments for ED, such as medications, work by increasing the amount of blood that flows into your penis when you’re sexually aroused by relaxing the surrounding blood vessels.

For example, medications like sildenafil (the active ingredient in Viagra) work by inhibiting PDE5 -- an enzyme that’s responsible for regulating the flow of blood to the erectile tissue that’s inside your penis.

Currently, there isn’t very much research on the effects of blood flow constriction devices as ED treatments.

This doesn’t mean that Eddie and similar devices aren’t helpful when used on their own -- just that we don’t have any scientific evidence on their efficacy as ED treatments yet.

Interestingly, the promotional website for Eddie by Giddy has a clinical trials section. However, this section doesn’t actually feature any published clinical studies -- instead, it contains a list of statistics from a study of Eddie users conducted by Giddy themselves.

In the study, Giddy asked a group of men about their experiences with Eddie as a treatment for erectile dysfunction. They found that 95 percent of the men who completed the study reported a positive experience with the device.

While this might look like a strong piece of scientific evidence in support of Eddie, it has several major problems.

The first is that the trial appears to have been carried out by Giddy, the company that produces and markets the device. The second is that it doesn’t appear to have been published in a peer reviewed journal, which is deeply abnormal for high quality scientific research.

In fact, the study itself doesn’t appear to be published anywhere at all -- Giddy simply offer a list of bullet points on their website, without any links to the full report or more detailed information.

There are also some potential methodological issues that could affect the validity of the results, such as the lack of any control group or the fact that some of the men may have dropped out of the study before it finished.

Overall, we think it’s fair to say that devices like Eddie are very much a “maybe” when it comes to effectiveness. While they might work, right now, we just don’t have enough evidence to make any confident statements in either direction.

Eddie by Giddy Reviews

As for feedback from customers, reviews of Eddie are mixed. Eddie has a 2.8 out of 5 rating on TrustPilot, with most negative reviews highlighting billing problems and issues getting the device to fit during sex.

Reviews of Eddie on Amazon are similar, with most customers highlighting the same problems and giving the device a rating of either one or five stars out of five.

Overall, it seems like Eddie works for some customers but not others, with issues like the fit of the device often affecting people’s results.

Eddie comes in four different sizes. It’s worth noting that Giddy provides a free resizing service, meaning that if Eddie doesn’t fit, you can change to a different size for a more comfortable fit at no additional charge.

The company also offers online resources to help customers find their size before ordering. The sizing method is quite precise -- you’ll need to either measure around your penis or choose your typical condom size to find out which version of Eddie is most likely to fit you comfortably.

Because Eddie and its tension bands stretch over time, Giddy recommends replacing the device and its bands every few months. The company offers a “Stay-Giddy” subscription that includes a fresh set of Eddies and tension bands every four months to make this process easier.

Overall, while there’s no published scientific evidence that Eddie works, some guys seem to find it helpful as an alternative to other ED treatments.

And if worse comes to worst, the company provides a 60-day money-back guarantee, albeit with some requirements and restrictions

Other Treatments for Erectile Dysfunction

Eddie is an interesting erectile dysfunction device. It shares some of its features in common with more conventional cock rings, but offers a modern design that takes into account the anatomy of the penis and provides a more customized, comfortable fit.

However, it’s far from the only option for treating ED, nor is it the one with the strongest scientific evidence behind it.

If you’re one of the tens of millions of men in the United States with ED, you have several other options to choose from, ranging from evidence-based medication to making changes to certain aspects of your daily life.

ED Medications

Currently, the most effective treatments for ED are prescription medications such as sildenafil (the active ingredient in Viagra), tadalafil (Cialis®), vardenafil (Levitra®) and avanafil (sold as Stendra®).

These medications work by increasing blood flow to the erectile tissue in your penis, making it easier to get and keep your erection when you’re sexually aroused.

Instead of fitting a device to your penis after you get an erection, you can use medication before sex. Most ED medications last for a few hours at a time, but some, such as tadalafil, continue to work for up to 36 hours per dose.

We offer a range of ED medications online, following a consultation with a licensed healthcare provider who will determine if a prescription is appropriate.

You can learn more about these medications, how they work and their potential side effects in our guide to the best pills for treating erectile dysfunction

When ED is caused by a psychological issue, such as sexual performance anxiety, taking part in therapy is often an effective way to improve your erections and sexual health.

Several different forms of therapy are used to treat ED, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and sex therapy. These may be used on their own or in combination with other options, such as ED medication.

We offer online therapy as part of our range of mental health services, allowing you to talk to a licensed mental health provider from the privacy of your home.

Other ED Treatments

When options like oral medication and psychotherapy aren’t effective, experts use several other approaches to treat erectile dysfunction and improve sexual performance. These include:

  • Other medications. In addition to oral medications like sildenafil, other medications, such as alprostadil, which is available as an ED injection or suppository, are also used to treat ED. These medications often produce an immediate, automatic erection.

  • Vacuum erection devices (penis pumps). Vacuum constriction devices work by creating pressure to draw blood into your penis. They’re often used in combination with a penis ring to trap blood inside your penis and maintain your erection during sex.

  • Erectile dysfunction surgery. When ED isn’t treatable using medication, you may need to undergo surgery to restore your erectile function by restoring damaged arteries or fitting a penile implant.

This type of surgical procedure is typically used to treat men with physical damage to the penis or surrounding tissue.

The Final Word on Eddie, the Giddy ED Device

Eddie, or the Giddy ED device, is an interesting product that could offer certain advantages over more conventional penis rings and other devices for enhancing sexual performance.

However, there’s currently no scientific research that shows that Eddie or similar devices are as effective at providing relief from erectile dysfunction as prescription drugs such as sildenafil and other PDE5 inhibitors.

If you’re one of the millions of men affected by ED, Eddie may be a useful alternative to pills and other treatment options. However, it’s important to keep in mind that it’s not the only option that’s available, nor is it necessarily the easiest to use or most reliable.

It’s also important to keep in mind that there is no one definitive device for every guy. Every guy is different, and so are our needs. And that’s okay.
